Stepping Stone Calculator
undefined
Overview
Places selected stepping stones along a path length at the chosen stride spacing and estimates base material and edging.
Assumptions
- Spacing is measured center-to-center along a mostly straight path.
- Stone preset dimensions and cost are planning values.
Worked example
A 30-ft path with 24-in spacing needs ceil(30 รท 2) + 1 = 16 stones, including a stone at each end.
Common mistakes
- Measuring spacing edge-to-edge.
- Setting stones on loose soil that will settle.
Limitations
Curves, variable stride, and stone thickness are not modeled.
Safety and local requirements
Set surfaces flush enough to avoid trip hazards. Check drainage and utility locations before digging.
