Sod Calculator

Overview

Uses lawn length × width for sod square footage, then converts that area to 500-sq-ft pallets and preparation items.

Assumptions

• One pallet covers 500 sq ft in this planning model.
• The result does not add a separate cut-waste percentage.

Worked example

A 50 × 40 ft lawn is 2,000 sq ft, so the pallet line is ceil(2,000 ÷ 500) = 4 pallets.

Common mistakes

• Ordering exactly the measured area for a lawn with curves.
• Letting delivered sod sit rolled up.

Limitations

Cultivar availability, pallet coverage, grade correction, and delivery timing are outside the calculation.

Locate irrigation and utilities before preparation. Follow local watering restrictions and product-label directions for starter fertilizer.
