Hedge Trimming Calculator
undefined
Overview
Calculates trimmed face area from hedge length, height, and selected sides; top area is approximated as length × 2 ft, then time and price follow.
Assumptions
- Tool-model assumption: top width is 2 ft.
- Tool-model assumption: powered trimming productivity is 25 sq ft/min, with 30% added for cleanup.
Worked example
A 30-ft, 5-ft hedge trimmed on 3 sides has 2 × 30 × 5 + 30 × 2 = 360 sq ft; trim time is 360 ÷ 25 = 14.4 min before cleanup.
Common mistakes
- Using hedge height for the top width.
- Pricing tall work without accounting for safe access.
Limitations
Plant species, branch thickness, ladder time, disposal, and shaping detail are not modeled.
Safety and local requirements
OSHA is linked for general equipment safety, not for this tool’s productivity or price assumptions. Keep power tools guarded, avoid overhead power lines, and use safe ladder practices; local green-waste rules vary.
