Fence Calculator

Overview
Converts linear footage and post spacing into sections, then estimates posts, style-specific panels/boards, rails, concrete, fasteners, and gate hardware.
Assumptions
- Sections are rounded up from linear feet ÷ post spacing.
- The takeoff is a material plan, not a wind or structural design.
Worked example
A 100-ft run at 8-ft spacing has ceil(100 ÷ 8) = 13 sections and, before gates, 14 line/end posts.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting corner, end, and gate posts.
- Assuming all fence styles use the same post depth and hardware.
Limitations
Property lines, slopes, gate loads, wind, frost depth, and local rules are not resolved.
Safety and local requirements
Call 811 before digging and check zoning, HOA, permit, and pool-barrier rules locally.
